Overview
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into oncology promises significant advances in diagnosis, treatment and research. This is a rapidly evolving field, with new applications emerging that can advance the development of new drugs, improve cancer care and early detection, and pave the way for personalised treatment plans while also supporting oncologists and other healthcare professionals in their daily practice. At the same time, regulatory challenges such as data protection, quality control and liability must be taken into account.

Prof. Dr. Sebastian Adeberg

Biography
Prof. Dr. Sebastian Adeberg has specialised in radio-oncology and radiation therapy. His professional career began at the University Hospital Heidelberg, where he held various leadership positions from 2012 to 2022, including that of managing and later senior physician. Since March 2023, Prof. Adeberg has been the Director of the Clinic for Radiation Therapy and Radio-Oncology at the University Hospital Marburg. He also heads the Marburg Ion Beam Therapy Center (MIT), one of the few facilities worldwide that offers both proton and carbon ion therapy. His scientific interests include, among others, brain and head-and-neck tumours, as well as the integration of imaging techniques in treatment planning.

Educational background
Studied medicine at the Medical School of Hanover, Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg, and Harvard University. He completed his doctorate in 2014, followed by his habilitation in 2018, and was appointed professor at the University Hospital Heidelberg in 2021.
